Client

Scottish Community Development Centre is a small charity recognised as the national lead body for community development in Scotland. We were approached to design a booklet for the National Standards of Community Engagement.

Design Brief

Our brief was to design branding and a booklet that explained the standards clearly and creatively. Some info-graphics were required to help see at a glance the seven standards. It was aiming for the Crystal Mark of Clarity stamp of approval (approved by Plain English Campaign), which it attained, so readability was important. Apart from the publication of the booklet we were also asked to design a ‘zeddie’ folded leaflet using the branding.

What We Did

We focussed in on the 7 standards and created a double spread for each one to give space and ease of reading since clarity was key. My client wanted the booklet to have a nice feel to it rather than a typical booklet so we got the cover embossed and matt laminated for a good feel. The circles of the branding was replicated throughout the booklet which included tables and infographics.

Outcome

The National Standards for Community Engagement been used to guide the process of community engagement.

“The Scottish Health Council welcomes the revised National Standards for Community Engagement. With the recent introduction of health and social care integration, the standards are a useful resource not only for benchmarking best practice in community engagement across the public sector but in ensuring consistency of approach and standards in participation, engagement and community empowerment in Scotland.”

Ecru Design helped us to effectively communicate the Scottish Governments National Standards for Community Engagement and VOiCE engagement software.  The innovative and professional designs helped us to produce materials which made sense to practitioners and could be used every day.  The team worked with us on our initial ideas and took them to another level as they are very talented designers which makes a big difference.  ECRU also pulled the stops out when we needed to produce materials to tight deadlines and ensured that the whole process from design to print was seamless.  We are very happy to recommend ECRU design and continue to work with them to produce our materials.”
