Client

Scottish Community Development Centre is a small charity recognised as the national lead body for community development in Scotland.

Design Brief

They contacted Ecru Design back in 2003 initially to help them with some leaflets. This led on to multiple projects with them including designing the Achieving Community Empowerment (ACE) guide which helped community groups take the appropriate steps to become more effective. As it was a guide they were looking for clarity in the design and layout. They needed it to be understood easily and had to be produced to last over a number of years of constant use.

What We Did

For the first step in relation to clarity we took the 4 sections and gave them a colour so as to visually distinguish between each one. We also used numbering in a graphic way to stand out too, and where relevant included infographics to make data more easily digestible. Since it was to be used multiple times over we produced the cover in oversized Canadian spiral bind which covers the wire on the spine and used a heavier card for the dividers.

Outcome

The ACE guide was developed as part of the Achieving Community Empowerment programme funded by the Big Lottery Fund, and was intended to help community groups and organisations become more confident, better organised and more effective in achieving their aims. As part of the National Community Capacity Building Programme it was used from 2009 to 2014 and helped community groups take the appropriate steps to become more effective.

“SCDC have used Ecru Design since 2003 for many of our key projects including leaflets, brochures and training packs. They produce excellent results time and time again and are great to work with. I have no hesitation recommending them to any key stakeholder.”
